Colorectal Surgery
Colorectal Surgery is the sub-specialty that treats disorders of the rectum, anus, and colon.
The General Surgery department at Health Sciences North is continuously evolving, offering more subspecialized services including Colorectal Surgery. Difficult and complex cases are now dealt with in Sudbury rather than having to go down south, avoiding costly and inconvenient trips, to our patients.
HSN offers first class procedures in the range of minimally invasive surgery (MIS); Laparoscopic surgery, trans anal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS) and more recently one of the most innovative techniques, trans anal total mesorectal excision (taTME) (www.thesudburystar.com/2015/10/08/new-surgery-better-for-sudbury-patients-hospital)
Pelvic floor physiotherapy; is also available within our community.
Dr Antonio Caycedo welcomes surgical electives for 4th year residents and higher, to spend 4 to 12 weeks in our colorectal service, residents can be exposed to both; open and minimally invasive surgery, also advanced colonoscopy and opportunity to attend the proctology clinic. Research opportunities exist; in conjunction with our research institute (www.amric.ca) currently we are involved in different projects involving surgical procedures and quality initiatives.
